In praise of quiet software
The best tools leave enough room for the work itself.
The tools I return to most are rarely the ones asking for attention. They open quickly, keep their shape, and let the thing I came to do remain the most important object on the screen.
Quiet software is not unfinished software. It is opinionated about what it refuses to interrupt. Its confidence shows up as restraint: fewer alerts, durable links, legible type, and an interface that remembers where I was without insisting that I return.
I want more tools that feel like a good desk—present, dependable, and mostly silent.
